Jayden Allen-Phillip

Son of Brooke Vinje

In the fall of 2005, I found out I was pregnant with my first child. I was so excited and already dreaming about the life we would have together.

His name was Jayden.

On April 28, 2006, at 25 weeks pregnant, I lost my son. I was devastated. I got to hold Jayden all day. He was so tiny and so precious. I tried to take in every little detail of him, knowing that eventually I would have to do the hardest thing a mother could ever do—let him go.

In 2007, I became pregnant with my rainbow baby. I was happy and hopeful, but I was also terrified. After losing Jayden, I was so scared I would lose this baby too. Every week and every milestone felt like something to hold my breath through.

Then, on October 2, 2007, my rainbow baby, Shane, arrived. After all the fear, worry, and prayers, I finally got to bring my baby home.

But having Shane never replaced Jayden. My heart simply grew big enough to carry them both—one in my arms and one forever in my heart.

Twenty years later, I still wonder who Jayden would be today.

He was my first baby, my first son, and the little boy who made me a mother.
