On Christmas of 2022, Lydia, our 21-month-old and only child at the time, died unexpectedly in her sleep. We later found out from the autopsy that she had a rare and undetectable congenital defect. Lydia was the most empathetic little toddler I have ever met. She loved our cats, watching Finding Nemo and Toy Story, playing with her dolls and toy kitchen, and going to the park.
After she died, I started a nonprofit called Love From Lydia. The purpose is to support grieving families following the loss of a child as well as to spread random acts of kindness in Lydia's memory. I am currently working on a program to help connect newly bereaved parents to others within the parent loss community. I found that connecting with those who have also gone through the trauma of losing a child has been the most helpful for me in my grief journey. I am forever grateful to the community of incredibly supportive and resilient parents I have met since Lydia died.
